Basic Safety and Feedback

The general axiom goes that if something is too good to be true it probably is. The same holds true online and especially on eBay. There are plenty of great deals and legitimate offers on eBay, but if someone has a $10000 Rolex listed Buy It Now at $300, it might be a scam. Be especially careful if the person has a low or non-existent feedback number. You can tell by looking next to the sellers name as circled in the example below.

In this example the seller has 298 feedback ratings and is a PowerSeller. This means they sell over $1000 in merchandise each month. The feedback area also shows us the percentage of positive feedbacks. It would appear that this is a legitimate seller. To be sure you want to click on the feedback number to view the latest comments onthe sellers feedback profile.

Again it looks like this would be a good seller to deal with. If there are a lot of negatives or very little feedback at all you may want to avoid those types. Most reliable sellers have built up a feedback profile from buying before they sell. Not to say that every newbie is a scammer but there are a lot of them. Exercise judgment when making big purchase and use escrow if necessary.
